Discover Music: Laura Mvula - She
For as long as I can remember, I have had music in the background. It helps me focus, think, and process everything. It's a part of who I am. I love new music, finding old favorites, and discovering new artists. When I was in college I worked at my college radio station and it was divine. I met other people who spent their adolescence listening to music in their rooms and feeling the albums. Good music is bliss. With the advent of music being digitized, it's become overwhelming. We have this detached music criticism that takes all the joy out of things so I like to listen to curated streams usually NPR stations affiliated with colleges and write down songs I like in a notebook. I order them and then find them on Spotify and make mixes depending on the season. Here is the example of a cut that I didn't hear anywhere else and it really moved me like music should.
I am a working mother and to tell you the truth, I have never been so tired in my life. I feel like a lot of what I thought would be static has completely changed. As I was writing yesterday, I heard this song and it was just beautiful and perfect. It just was triumphant. It was beautifully arranged, sung, and it was just perfect for the moment.
