I decided to use the category "Lemonworld" because it's one of my favorite songs from the National's 2010 album High Violet. It was one of my favorite albums that summer and it featured the song Bloodbuzz Ohio. I was an Ohio ex-pat at the time and my best girlfriends were all out of Ohio as well. We would change the lyrics to "I was carried to Ohio in a swarm of bees" to "I was carried to Ohio in a plane/Emily's Alero." We all have since boomeranged back to Ohio or are in the process of it.
If you get a chance to see the National live, do it. I've seen dozens of shows and they are by far the best in stage banter and stage presence. You wouldn't think so with all the moody lyrics and how mellow they are. However, they are hilarious, observant, and kind. Bring on the bon mots Matt Berninger! He wrote the song Lemonworld about being with his wife and her sister. I chose this because my sister and I have really unique cultural references that we get and have strong opinions on.
I grew up in a military family that is extremely close knit. My parents also preferred that we watch PBS and we lived at the library. We weren't allowed to watch the Smurfs because it was sexist. Saved By the Bell was anti-nerd and nerds were the best. A lot of common culture was lost on us so we have strong opinions about underground music of the 80's, Tolkien because Dad read us the Hobbit when we were little kids, the BBC versions of the Chronicles of Narnia that relied heavily on stage make up and green screens, and laughing so hard at PBS shows we cried. Our parents raised us to be strong, smart, and kind women so I will most likely post our opinions on random things. Until then, for your listening pleasure The National's Lemonworld:
