How Tolkien Created Middle Earth from the Guardian
True life: One of my favorite places on earth is Oxford, England. When I was doing my study abroad a family friend had a fellowship in quantum physics there. When I needed an escape, I would go down there. It's one of those magical places that just oozes scholarship and the "life of the mind" as the Coens would say. I got lost in the old ruins, colleges, Thames, and museums that were just places you could open drawers and find things. We ate at one of Tolkien and C.S. Lewis' favorite restaurants The Eagle and Child
Anyway, I could talk about Tolkien forever and I think that he created one of the most amazing worlds I have ever been in. I will most likely discuss this in a feature I'm calling Lemonworld which will be my sister and I talking about our favorite things. Tolkien being one of them. My husband watched the Lord of the Rings with us and felt like we were annotating it. He had no idea who Shadowfax was! For real. Anyway, this article is fabulous and I am really curious about this exhibit.
