Toddler Bops: Yellow by Coldplay Edition

Toddler Bops: Yellow by Coldplay Edition

This bop surprised me

Much like myself as a small child, (see videos of me spinning to U2's I Will Follow and the March Violets cover of "Amanda Jones" from the Some Kind of Wonderful Soundtrack), I like to have music in the background. My son has heard all of my hipster music and he likes it. Obviously, nothing compares to his current favorite song "Old McDonald." He heard it at daycare and when my mom and I sang it to him, he was incredulous like it was some deep cut. But it's weird to see the music he responds to. He was in the bath when he heard this jam and it was (drumroll please) "Yellow" by Coldplay.

Unrepentantly romantic
— Matt Diehl in Rolling Stone reviewing the song

Brit-pop personified

Apparently Chris Martin wrote the song mimicking Neil Young (yeah dude!) and wrote this incredibly sentimental song. Apparently, he was obsessed with the stars he saw and then saw a friend with a yellow aura. Anyway, it's an interesting song and it was totally different from the songs that were on the radio at the time. That was when *gag* nu-metal was the rage and then to hear this sweet sensitive song on the radio was surprising. Also, it was extremely romantic. Like it was the kind of thing you could hold hands with a crush to. Why my son jammed out to it I do not know. But it was sweet to see him dance to it and respond to it. I love it. I love rehearing songs with my son and reminiscing. Nothing takes me back to a certain time and place like music. This song took me back to drawing in my room in Dayton, sitting with a notebook drawing with markers, and dreaming about boys. I wonder what Rhys will think about it later. Anyway, it's a certified TODDLER BOP.
